The series of paintings created during the period of July-September 2023 mark an important change in the pictorial aesthetic acquired in recent years.

We recognise at times the artist’s “touch”, the gestures, the play of transparencies in this gentle confrontation of the material, we are surprised by the dark shades, never used before. Inevitably questions arise about this radical change in the palette used.
The series “The Dark Night of the Soul – an inner journey” is a subtle vision of the state of “non-struggle”, of the abandonment of agitation and research, a state of deep inner appeasement emerges. We can only guess the artist’s moods during this intense process of transforming the material.

Nevertheless the titles show us the way: “Inland Empire”/ “L’Empire interieur”, “Battle field”/”Champ de bataille”, “Subtil vision”/ ‘Vision Subtle”, “The possibility of an Island”/ “La possibilité d’une île”.
Captivating by their laconic, dark and calm colours, we get used to looking at them as if in a dark room, to detect a barely palpable source of light. And there she is.
